Over-dyed Rugs?

Have you ever heard of an over-dyed rug? They are up and coming for sure. They are typically old persian rugs that are given new life. The rug is saturated in a bright color to cover some of the wear and loss of color that occurs to rugs over time. The pattern of the rug still shows through some and  there are lighter spots and darker spots in the rug. Here are some great spaces using over-dyed rugs.
I am working with a client on her home office and we recently placed this rug in there. It looks FABULOUS! It is really a great way to introduce modern into a space in a warm and vintage way.

I explored if this was a DIY worthy kind of project and really came up empty. The rugs are so heavily dyed, that it would be real mess to do at home. I would also worry about the color bleeding onto other things that the rug touched over time.
I have talked to a few antique rug dealers about it and their faces were shocked at first and then slightly changed to intrigue....maybe they will slowly come around!
So, what do you think? Would you put one of these in your home?
