200+ home improvement projects

Give me a free evening and I’ll probably be making a mood board for a room I have no immediate plans to touch. It’s a habit that goes back to my Interior Design degree, actually pulling paint chips and tile samples and photos of other people’s kitchens into one page until a room starts to make sense before I’ve picked up a single tool. I just love watching a space come together on paper first.

I learned pretty early that paper and reality don’t always agree. A bathroom “refresh” I thought would take a weekend turned into three weeks once we opened the wall and found plumbing that should’ve been swapped out a decade earlier. I don’t plan anything the same way now. I just assume the wall is hiding something, because nine times out of ten, it is.

Years of managing renovations on my own places, plus talking half my friends through theirs, taught me what these projects actually cost; not just the money, but the time and the patience too.

So while I’ll always make you a beautiful mood board, I’ll also tell you the unglamorous part: the real budget, the right order to do things in, and when it’s smarter to just hire someone instead of white-knuckling it yourself.

Open any well-built kitchen cabinet door, and what you’ll find behind it says more about quality than the finish ever could. Stand in front of two kitchens built the same year, and one will look a decade newer than the other — the difference usually comes down to how the cabinet doors sit against the box. Bay vs Bow Window: Which Fits Your Home?

Standing in the window aisle, staring at two catalogs that look almost identical, is where most people get stuck. One curve, one angle, both promising more light and a bigger room — but which actually fits your house? That’s the real question behind bay vs bow window: two styles that push past the wall in […]
